Luxury Hotel near Cala San Vincente
September 18, 2019 | Blog
Among the most charming towns on Mallorca, Cala San Vicente is a historic fishing village that retains much of its tucked-away, unhurried charm even as it offers luxury accommodations, fine restaurants, and world-class beachgoing.
The standout among the aforementioned luxury lodgings is a Hoposa property: Hotel Niu, the perfect home base for exploring this bewitching Mediterranean village.
Cala San Vicente
Nestled on the north coast of Mallorca at the very foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, Cala San Vicente makes a northern vertex of a triangle with Pollensa to the southwest and Puerto Pollensa to the southeast. It’s very easy and rewarding to combine a visit to Cala San Vicente with sightseeing and R&R leisure in bigger and more bustling Puerto Pollensa, host to a slew of Hoposa hotels and vacation apartments. Indeed, you can make Cala San Vicente a daytrip from any of those properties—or extend your enjoyment with an overnighter (or three) at Hotel Niu!
History in Cala San Vicente runs mighty deep, as evidenced by the presence of a megalithic column and cave-tomb system on the outskirts of town. The village’s scenic setting, meanwhile, is hard to beat, with several beaches—Cala Barques the largest—set against rugged headlands, coastal mountains, and piney benches. Pines are also plentiful in the town proper, where traditional architecture overlaps with modern villas and condos, and where you’ll find no shortage of bars and restaurants.
Besides its own beachfront enticements, Cala San Vicente makes a great jumping-off point for tours of the rugged limestone glories of the Serra de Tramuntana—home to such heraldic Mallorcan wildlife as black vultures and Eleonora’s falcons, and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its long-used terraces, cobblestone roads, and other historic structures—as well as the swoon-worthy land- and seascapes of the Formentor Peninsula. That northeasternmost extension of Mallorca claims one of the island’s great beaches (Playa de Formentor) and arguably its most spectacularly situated lighthouse.
