Mallorca Challenge Cycle Race
January 20, 2017 | Things to Do
One of the highlights of the jam-packed Mallorcan sporting year is pedaling fast down the pike: The Mallorca Challenge (aka Vuelta a Mallorca), a four-day road-biking spectacular!
The 2017 Tour of Mallorca falls January 26, 27, 28, and 29, each day featuring a different racecourse. Riders needn’t compete across all four days, which means this isn’t technically a stage race and there’s no general classification (G.C.) prize awarded. Unofficially, however, a rider who takes part in every day of racing and does so with the lowest overall time does earn an unofficial G.C.-type win.
Many high-profile road bikers use the Mallorca Challenge to kick off their seasons, and the fact that it’s not a stage event means you’ll often see a wide variety of different participants on each squad and some pretty high-octane racing going down.
A Variety Pack of Racecourses
From city streets to hilly backroads, the Tour of Mallorca courses test riders with a whole range of terrain. Last year, the four races under the Vuelta a Mallorca banner were the Trofeo Felanitx-Ses Salines-Campos-Porreres (won by Andre Greipel of Germany), the Trofeo Pollenca-Port d Andratz (won by Gianluca Brambilla of Italy), the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana (won by Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland), and Trofeo Playa de Palma (also won by Greipel).
Given one of the courses weaves through the roadways of Pollenca, you’re nicely poised to take in the cycling action as a guest of ours at a Hoposa hotel or vacation rental.

Oh, and did we mention bike-friendly weather nearly year-round?
Many of our Hoposa properties—the Hoposa Uyal, Daina, and Pollentia hotels plus the Villaconcha, Daina, and Montelin apartments—are especially well suited to cycling, situated as they are within easy reach of prime Serra de Tramuntana routes and offering as they do bike storage and repair.
