Things to Do in Puerto Pollensa

Dezember 14, 2020 | Blog

Puerto Pollensa (Port de Pollenca) is easily one of the best places to stay in Mallorca. This seaside town came of age as a fishing village, but has transformed into a popular—though still charming and laidback—tourist attraction on the far northeastern coast of the island.

Set on the ravishing Bay of Pollensa, backed by the rugged peaks of the Serra de Tramuntana and just a stone’s throw from the spectacular Cap de Formentor—the peninsula forming Mallorca’s northeasternmost finger—Puerto Pollensa offers much to do right in town as well as within ready day-tripping reach. You won’t find better places to stay than our multiple outstanding Hoposa hotels and vacation apartments, all of them magical and some of them truly historic accommodations.

Things to Do in Puerto Pollensa

Unsurprisingly, the waterfront’s the main attraction in Puerto Pollensa itself. Puerto Pollensa Beach is among the standout stretches of sand on Mallorca, and a great jumping-off point for the kitesurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and other watersports so popular on the Bay of Pollensa. You don’t have to look hard for shops renting equipment and offering classes, including for those interested in doing some scuba diving.

(By the way, while you’re enjoying the bay and harbor—mainly plied these days by fancy yachts and cruising catamarans—keep an eye peeled for a llaüt, one of the traditoinal, lateen-sailed fishing boats of the Balearic Islands.)

The celebrated Pine Walk (Passeig Voramor) is Puerto Pollensa’s seaside promenade, shaded by no shortage of (you guessed it) pines and fronted by numerous cafes, bars, and restaurants. The Pine Walk also offers access to another ace Puerto Pollensa beach: D’Albercuix.

Speaking of wining and dining establishments, they’re definitely their own draw in town, as are Puerto Pollensa’s nice assortment of stores.

Sightseeing & Adventures Out of Puerto Pollensa

Given the incredible coastline, countryside, and mountain heights so close by, Puerto Pollensa’s a wonderful launch pad for experiencing Mallorca’s world-class cycling and hiking firsthand.

Indeed, you can easily bicycle to many of the top attractions in Puerto Pollensa’s near vicinity, including the nearby towns of Pollenca and Alcudia. Old Town Pollenca’s renowned for its historical architecture, including the Gothic Church of Sant Jordi and its Roman-era bridge; the town square includes a Sunday market well worth visiting during a Puerto Pollensa getaway and leads to the Calvari Steps. The town has for many decades hosted an internationally lauded festival of classical music, too: the Pollenca Music Festival, held in the magnificent Convento de Santo Domingo.

Another classic day trip out of Puerto Pollensa is Cap de Formentor. The peninsula’s stony ridges, headlands, and coves constitute some of the finest scenery on Mallorca; there’s also a wonderful beach, Playa de Formentor, and a historic lighthouse to pay your respects to here.
