People cheering with a cup of champagne

Think Mallorca’s illustrious libations are confined to wine? Think again! There’s a burgeoning craft-beer scene on the island churning out locally made ales and lagers serving as an alternative to mass-produced brews, and as a guest of ours at a Hoposa hotel or vacation apartment you’re all set to explore what our homegrown brewmasters whip up!

Here’s a quick survey of some fine-grade Mallorcan breweries. Besides visiting them directly, you can track down (in many cases, anyhow) their beers on tap in Mallorcan restaurants and/or sold in groceries and markets.

People cherring with a cup of champagne

Sullerica (Sóller)

Orange blossoms characteristic of Sóller help define the excellent lineup of beers whipped up at Sullerica. They include the Sullerica Original (a golden blond ale), Fosca (a dark brown ale), Wheatbeer (made with Mallorcan bread wheat), 1561 (an IPA), and Valenta (a session IPA).

Forastera (Alaró)

Magnificently positioned in the shadow of the mighty Serra de Tramuntana, Forastera—founded by German-born Sven Gohdes—offers a wide range of beers exuding plenty of personality. Perhaps you’ll get to taste the Ocre Dark Lager, the Mallorca Pale Ale, the Punk is Dad Rye IPA, the Rock the Bock Bockbier, or the Brownzilla Brown Ale, to name a mere sampling.

Cas Cerveser (Puigpunyent)

Cas Cerveser (“brewer’s house”) serves up a sturdy stable of staples, including a golden ale, a red, and an American amber, plus specialty brews such as a highly regarded sour-cherry beer.

Beer Lovers Mallorca (Alcudia)

Operated out of a centuries-old family home right in the heart of Alcudia, Beer Lovers Mallorca lives up to its name with such winners as Blat (a witbier), Llop (an IPA), Dipa (a double IPA), Broll (a pale ale), Necro (an imperial stout), and Bram (an amber ale).

Cerveza Nau (Santa Maria del Cami)

This microbrewery only produces two beers, but given their adherence to the famous German Beer Purity Law you can bet they’re awesome: the Rubia Bohemia, a lager, and the Dama Blanca, a wheat beer.

Cervesa de Maria (Maria de la Salut)

Here’s another excellent Mallorcan brewery with a fine-tuned focus on a pair of beers: the Tuareg, a dry-hopped pale ale, and the Comandante, an amber.

Other Mallorcan Destinations for Beer Lovers

We’d be remiss not mentioning the Palma tavern Cerveceria Tramuntana, which in addition to a smorgasbord of beers from all over the world serves up its own house ale, as well as Lórien, also in Palma and another fantastic destination for craft beer. Meanwhile, you can learn more about Mallorca’s beery side with this Culture Trip roundup and this article from The Beer Connoisseur website.
