Best Beaches in Mallorca, Spain

April 18, 2017 | Blog Things to Do

Mallorca’s celebrated for many things, but of course among its foremost attractions are its fabulous and plentiful Mediterranean beaches.

Staying with us at a Hoposa hotel or vacation apartment, you’re never far from some top-grade Balearic sand. Here’s our roundup of some of the very best beaches in Mallorca: not exhaustive, mind you, given how many candidates there are, but definitely a list of seashores you can’t go wrong at!

Playa de Formentor

A stone’s throw from our Puerto Pollensa properties, Playa de Formentor serves up some postcard-perfect white sands edged by the pine-oak forests and cliffs of the Formentor Peninsula.

Cala Mesquida

Nearly 1,000 feet long, Cala Mesquida in the northeast boasts one of the handsomest backdrops of any Mallorcan beach: Dunes shoulder the sandy foreshore, while to the east pinewood uplands ease down to surf-edge crags. One of the biggest seabird colonies in the Balearics lies near here, so you may see cormorants and gulls on the wing as you lounge.

Cala Deia

This pocketsize beach on the northwest coast occupies a gorgeous little cove framed by rocky cliffs and piney hills. There’s not much in the way of sand, but you’ve got plenty of rocks to perch on, not to mention a couple of restaurants with killer views…

Cala Estellencs

Another stony cove beach in Mallorca’s northwest, Cala Estellencs delivers some wonderful Mediterranean Sea sunsets. It also makes a good jumping-off point for snorkeling.

Playa de Palma

This is one of Mallorca’s best-known beaches, so don’t expect solitude. That said, it’s still a fetching and broad swath of sand with plenty of room: ideal for sunbathing and swimming.

Bahia de Alcudia

The longest stretch of beach in Mallorca—and one of the most popular—fronts the shallow and swimmable waters of the Bay of Alcudia.

S’Amarador Beach

One of several primo beaches in southeastern Mallorca’s Mondrago Natural Park, S’Amarador has gleaming sands, rock ledges, turquoise waters, and forested bluffs for a backdrop.

Of course, you’ll find many other wonderful beaches on Mallorca’s long and dreamy coast: thronged and built-up ones where you can enjoy a cocktail or dinner within shouting distance of the surf, remote and near-empty ones that encourage tranquil reflection (and maybe a long wave-soundtracked nap).

For the perfect vacation, it’s really hard to beat beach-hopping your way across Mallorca—with a Hoposa hotel or apartment your home-away-from-home!
